The Rising Tempest

Updated: Feb 7

by Chloe Chang (she/her)

Freshman, Poolesville High School

A power bright and true, a tempest strong,

It draws its strength from every single source.

Within, it demands what's just and long,

A force not tamed, but one that swells with force.

Born of fire, a rising tide of change,

That dares to challenge every status quo.

A divine force that none can rearrange,

It storms the bastions, seeking freedom's flow.

With age-old norms and chains that bind so tight,

The walls that hold us from our liberation,

The choice between perfection or our right,

Is scrutinized, a painful situation.

But we pave our way, marching towards the light,

We are women, our future now in sight.

Author's Note

My poem is in sonnet form, and it draws some inspiration/references from Shakespeare!
