A Snowy January Day

by Eunia Zhong (she/her)

Freshman, Poolesville High School

🥉3rd, 2023-24 Winter Writing Contest

Magic white powder fills people with joy

Spreading a smile to each girl and boy

Brings back childhood’s wanted bliss

Something that people know and grow to miss

Folks get ready for a day of fun

Children go outside to play and run

Seeing the magic of the flakes

Brings people back to a long lost place

A time of joy, fun, and laughter

There but lost thereafter

When people gathered together as one

And wondered at the snow until it was none

One day of magic breaks the ice

Everyone together, a roll of the dice

Fires lit burn with unity and cinders

Melting the hard and ice cold winter

Once upon a snowy January day
